Sandi 2017

16 years old · Adoptable · Hospice Placement, No Fee

Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application.
Please do not call the shelter; do the application first.

Sandi is a 16 year old long haired Dachshund (DOB 5-28-08) who came to Forget Me Not Shelter when her owner could no longer care for her. Sandi not only lost her home and person, but also her sister Jackie who crossed the Rainbow Bridge shortly after the pair arrived at Forget Me Not. Sandi and her sister were a bonded pair and loved each other dearly.

Staff and volunteers have been sure to shower Sandi with the extra hugs, kisses and treats as she navigates through the days without her sister by her side.

We like to say she resembles a little wind up toy as she takes her daily strolls around her room and outdoor area.

Sandi loves her treats and will get so excited she can’t help but smack her little mouth when anticipating a snack. She also does the cutest little tap dance when she sees breakfast and dinner coming. Sandi eats a special diet of canned and hard food specific for her age and needs.

She is trained to use puppy pads, which is helpful at her age and with her somewhat limited mobility. She isn't a dog that will need to go for walks, though she would enjoy some time soaking up the sun - maybe a dog-wagon for her to ride around in?

We don't recommend toddlers for Sandi because she has that fragileness of the elderly, but she should be fine with older children that respect her advanced age.

Life moving forward for Sandi will need to be in a home with one level where she can negotiate her surroundings with ease as stairs and ramps are too much for her with impaired vision, small legs, and age. Close interaction with her humans is a must so she doesn’t feel, lonely especially now after the loss of her sister.

At 16 years old, we all know Sandi's time is limited, and hope she will find a hospice home who can provide some "doggie bucket list" adventures. I don't think Sandi knows what a puppaccino is - do you want to be the one to introduce her to such magnificence?

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Sandi is a suggested minimum of Hospice Placement, No Fee (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
