Reese 1854

9 months old · Adopted

Did you think you'd NEVER see a golden retriever in an animal shelter? We did too, but due to his local breeder's leg injury, Reese finds himself needing a new place to call home.

This boy, born 2/22/23, will be a project dog for the person who has always wanted to rescue a golden. He is undersocialized and shy, but true to the breed, has a happy heart and is willing to learn to trust people. He is quite thin right now, weighing only about 34 pounds, and we are having some difficulty getting him to eat enough. We've tried hand-feeding but his lack of training means he is a "snatch and grab" kind of feeder, and doesn't yet understand that hands are not part of the food, so we are back to trying to convince him to eat from a dish.

He has been dependent on his mother (who was also surrendered and is already on adoption pending), and will blossom much faster when they are permanently separated and each has their own family with which to bond.

Reese will need full training, everything from house training to recall to obedience... and then beyond! In the right loving family, this boy could become anything from a therapy dog to a dancing partner to a search-and-rescue candidate - he just needs someone devoted to him who will teach him how to be the best dog he can be. He promises the lifetime of love he has within him will definitely be worth the effort of training!

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Reese is a suggested minimum of $150 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
