Dover 1610
4 years old · Adopted
Dover is a lovely mystery mixed breed - we think we see a little Chesapeake Retriever in there - who is about 1 year old and weighs 53 lbs. She came to Forget Me Not as a stray with obvious signs of separation anxiety (not uncommon for dogs who have lost, or been abandoned by, their people). Dover needs to find a forever home where someone can always be with her to put her mind at ease that she won’t be left behind. She's definitely willing to go on all sorts of adventures with you! Dover is not one who can currently be left alone in the yard, or in the car, or even crated in the house; she will desperately try to escape to find her human if she is left alone. She CAN be comfortable outside in a fenced yard as long as she knows her person is home, and she can come and go as needed to make visual contact. Separation anxiety IS manageable and in many cases curable, but it takes time and patience. Dover has been prescribed trazadone which is inexpensive and seems to take the edge off her anxiety during the rare times her foster mom has to leave her; this may be a good solution while she settles into her new forever home. Our vet's hope is that, with the right combination of stable forever home, love, and (hopefully short term) medication, Dover's inner cycle of person leaving I'm abandoned again PANIC!! PANIC!! will finally be broken. She is an energetic, very friendly girl who enjoys playing with other dogs as well. Dover will benefit being in a home with other furry friends to help ease her anxiousness and calm her nerves. Because she has a higher energy level and loves to zip around, she would probably be a better fit with older children as she may be a little too rambunctious for toddlers. She is indifferent to cats. She is housetrained and is working on manners (she's already learned to sit and will come when called). She needs additional work with leash training. Her foster mom reports she is cuddly, eager to please, and doesn't have an ounce of aggression - just a sweet girl who never wants to be abandoned again. Dover deserves that perfect home that will show her what unconditional love and patience feels like as she learns that she won’t be disregarded. She is the Very Best Girl and will blossom into a wonderful and confident dog with the right experienced owner who will hold her paw through her separation anxiety and bring her through to the realization that she is home to stay. The love just shines from her - every day is a happy day when Dover is there with you! All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Dover is a suggested minimum of $125 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
