Bucky 2154

10 years old  ·  Adoption Pending

Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application. Please do not call the shelter; do the application first.

Sweet Bucky, a senior at least 10 years old, has had a tough last year or so. His owner died and he ended up at a different animal shelter. He was adopted from that shelter about 9 months ago, and lived happily with his new family until the humans had to move to assisted living and Bucky was not allowed to go with them.

This 55-pound well-mannered love came to Forget Me Not and our Sammi Fund for Seniors program in mid-September, and has since had a full geriatric blood panel and comprehensive veterinary exam.

The bloodwork came back quite good overall; he has mildly elevated liver enzyme levels, so we have started him on Denamarin for liver support; this is a pretty typical medication for seniors, and if his liver enzymes do not decrease. adopter should expect about a $2.50 per day cost for liver support.

His teeth are good. He has cataracts, so his vision is somewhat limited, but he can sure see a treat in your hand!

Bucky's sky-high anxiety level since arriving at the shelter (and, really, who can blame him) did not abate during his first weeks with us, so he has started taking a low (75mg) dose of trazadone and is a MUCH, MUCH happier and calmer boy now. We expect he will be able to wean off this medication once adopted and established in his new family's routine, but if he needs to continue long term on this inexpensive medication, the cost is less than $10/month.

Bucky has met some of the other adult dogs at the shelter and has done well with them, so we feel with proper introductions, he should be great in a home with other dogs. He is very good on leash and enjoyed a long walk on our local Rail Trail with one of our fabulous dog-loving volunteers.

Toys don't seem to be his thing, as seen in his video; his favorite thing is to be with his person (whomever is giving him attention at the time). He is extremely treat motivated, so if you have a pocketfull of liver treats, he will follow you to the ends of the earth and beyond.

Bucky so deserves to have a warm and loving family home for the rest of his years, and can't wait to meet you!

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Bucky is a suggested minimum of $85 or Senior for Senior (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
