Queenie 1692

2 years old · Adopted

Queenie is an Australian Cattle Dog (Heeler) mix, just over a year old, who came to Forget Me Not Shelter when her owners could no longer care for her.

This very friendly, silly girl is a ball of energy! She is potty trained and does well in her kennel. She’s very playful and always ready to chase a ball. As you can see, she has a wide range of expressions, the most common of which involves a happy smile.

Queenie has fit in well with most of the mid-sized female dogs she has met at the shelter, though she is definitely the leader of the pack and she can be selective about her dog friends. If you currently have a dog, you will need to bring them to meet Queenie at the shelter in Republic to be sure they are interested in becoming friends.

Although she has not yet been formally introduced to a cat, she has shown excitement when she spots one lounging in a window or playing on the catio, and tends to approach them with a bit too much energy. She responds well to redirection and is easily called away from her interest in the cats; she may be able to live with a dog-savvy cat, but we suspect she would chase a cat that runs from her.

Queenie still needs some work on her manners. She is most excited when she is first greeted and says her hello by jumping up to give you a smooch. This will knock over a toddler, but children old enough to understand how to turn their back and not reward her jumping will be just fine with Queenie. Volunteers and staff work with her every day to redirect this jumping habit, and she will progress quickly once she is in a home setting with just her very own people giving her consistent direction.

Once she works her wiggles out, she calms down quite a bit, and can often be found snuggling on the lap of any of her favorite volunteers. She still counts as a puppy (at least until next summer), so the zoomies will continue to come upon her at times!

With consistent training and redirection Queenie will continue to outgrow her puppy habits and blossom into a wonderful medium-sized companion. Queenie is an active dog but she does love to snuggle! She will be equally at home with some jogging, or agility, or doggie parkour, as she will be with cuddling on the couch on a cold, wet night.

All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Queenie is a suggested minimum of $125 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
