Meet Mojo and Rico, an elderly pair of Chihuahuas looking for a retirement home. These boys are both estimated to be 11 years old and have been together since they were pups. Mojo is a long-haired 6 ½ pound male and Rico is a short-haired black and white 5-pound male.
Mojo and Rico came to us as owner surrenders due to their elderly owner needing to move to assisted living. When the boys arrived at the shelter, they both suffered from severe dental disease. Along with the dental issues, Mojo had some respiratory issues. Once seen at WSU it was discovered that he has acute bronchial disease.
Rico had all but 6 teeth removed and is in great health. The story for Mojo is not as lucky. WSU did perform the dental, removing all but 3 teeth along with part of his jaw. They flushed out his lungs and he is now on antibiotics and prednisone. Mojo has gained 2 pounds since his surgery and is feeling much better. Although he feels better, he has not fully recovered from the bronchitis. He currently is not able to be neutered due to severe risks from putting him back under anesthesia. The good news is, the lack of neutering has not led to marking or any behavioral problems for Mojo - he is a sweet and happy old man.
For these reasons, Rico and Mojo are being offered as an adoption/foster pair. Because Mojo is not neutered, our policies prevent us from being able to adopt him out, but we would love to see Mojo in a permanent foster home along with his adopted brother Rico. As a permanent foster pet, Mojo's medical needs would be covered by Forget Me Not, while holding out a hope of improvement leading to neuter and possible adoption in the future if desired. As an adoptee, Rico would be all yours, and Forget Me Not would allow you full decision for all of Rico's future care, even while Mojo's care would be in our hands.
These two enjoy short walks in the yard, lounging in the sun and taking long naps. They are a low maintenance duo who are looking for a soft landing. They will be great companions for any human looking for a couple fur buddies to love.
Mojo and Rico will do fine in a home with other dogs, cats and/or respectful children.
Please consider opening your home to these two easy going guys.
All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Rico is suggested minimum $50 (more gratefully accepted) or Senior for Senior; as a permanent foster pet, there is no charge for his companion Mojo. All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.
Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your payment to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
