Nova, currently a 37 pound pup, was born on 11/12/2017. She was surrendered by her previous owner because the apartment where they lived required Nova be crated while the owner was at work, and she wanted a better life for her. Nova is a ray of sunshine in an odd package. We were told she is a mix of Karelian Bear Dog, Black Mouth Cur, and German Shepherd. While it’s hard to predict, we estimate her adult weight to be between 50 and 65 pounds. She is guaranteed to make you smile.
When you first meet Nova she is cautious, but once you win her trust she is playful, affectionate, loving, and eager to please. After their first meeting, one of our volunteers had her doing tricks for treats like sit, stay, down, roll over, and fetch! She seems to be very people oriented and loves to spend time sitting next to, or playing with you on the office couch. She is a bundle of puppy energy that will reward the right person with a lifetime of companionship and loyalty.
Nova’s ideal home will be living indoors with an active family who will include her in their daily activities, and not leave her alone for long periods of time. Given her age we do not recommend a home with very young children as she may knock them down with her enthusiasm. Older respectful children should be fine. We have not yet tested her with cats or other dogs but will do so.
Nova hasn’t mastered potty training yet and those considering adopting her should be prepared to continue work in this area. We will also continue to work with her on this and hope that, between our volunteers and exposure to other shelter dogs, she will catch on quickly.
Nova comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.
Spay, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $95; more gratefully accepted!).
