Scooter arrived as one of several cats that were apparently abandoned outside when their owner moved away. She shows some evidence of abuse/neglect in her shyness and hesitancy to approach new people, and she shies away when hands move toward her face, but the longer she stays with us at the shelter, the more trusting she becomes. She is not quite ready to be picked up - SCARY! SCARY! - but she SO craves connection and attention with humans, and likes being petted and skritched.
Scooter isn't the sort of kitty who will do well in a home with triplet toddlers and lots of noise and activity, but she will be SO very grateful to join a calm and loving family or person who will grant her the patience it takes for her to realize she is HOME and SAFE and has her very own HUMAN(s).
Scooter is fine with other cats; dogs make her nervous. She would be happy as an only pet, or could integrate into a home with another pet or two. Although she is used to being outside, we would recommend having her indoor-only until she has bonded and built her confidence, then maybe trying harness/leash walks to reduce the chance of her bolting from some new stimulus (AMBULANCE! WALK SIGNAL SOUND! AAAAHHHH).
There is nothing as rewarding in rescue as the moment when a frightened, shy kitty knows she is home for good. Are you the person to give that gift to Scooter?
All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee is a suggested minimum of $40 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts.
Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our transport expenses, that would be great!
