Mercury is a large, handsome, 5 year old boy who arrived as an owner surrender when his person moved away. He was pretty terrified of shelter life when he first arrived and mostly hid in one of the "caves" available in his cat room. He has started to come out of his shell and now spends most of his time on a perch looking out the window, or on the porch where he can get a better view of the action in the yard. While he does seem to appreciate interacting with people who visit him he still isn’t real fond of being held. His weakness is treats and he will venture out to find them wherever they are left.
Whenever someone begins petting him his purr motor revs into overdrive - he remembers the good stuff about being loved, and is ready to find a new home with people who will get his motor running every day. He would do fine as an indoor/outdoor kitty, as that is what he was used to in his former home. He seems to get along with other cats just fine, even letting his current roommate Bebe bully him around a bit, and seems tolerant of dogs. You can see him at least partway out of his cave at about 2:00 on the first video, and can see the progress he has made in the recent video.
All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Mercury is suggested minimum $40 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
