Gus is doing wonderfully....Funny I got an email from his new family about feeding the two dogs (they have a border collie that loves Gus)...the issue was they have always had dogs that scarf down everything they feed them as soon as they see it.  Well their dog doesn't do that and neither does Gus so they wondered if they should just leave the food out for both of them at the same time.  Of course I let them know that was what i did and it was ok as long as they didn't fight over the food. I thought it was really cute as here is another wonderful trait he has.  Another brownie point for my good dog GUS!!  Hooray!  They just love him.

NOTE: After trying everything to help Gus get over his prey-drive toward the kitties, his adopters reluctantly and sorrowfully decided they were not going to be able to keep him; luckily for Gus, they did an AWESOME job finding him a new home, so he didn't need to come back to the shelter! All updates above this point are Gus in his new home with his buddy Harley.

He is settling in pretty good.  He was so rambunctious when we got him in Monroe we were a little worried what we got ourselves in for.  He settled really well once we got home.  He did run off once and It looked like he was headed right for the busy road and we live quite a ways off the road.  He instead turned and ran into the horses field.  My husband went in and rescued him before anyone kicked him.  Only 2 are not used to dogs in the field.  Our other lab used to run with the other horses when he was younger.  He is learning 'COME" really well so hopefully if that happens again he will come back.

He is a barker and so that will take some time and patience to get him over that.  I am sure the neighbors won't be too happy for a few days but it will get better.  Our blue heeler is still trying to decide if she likes him or not although it is going pretty well.  He has started barking back at her today.  but that also will come with time too.

One thing that does have me a little worried is he is definitely a cat chaser.  Even our very dog friendly cat doesn't like him.  We will work with him on that but if we have any issues that we can't seem to resolve this would be the deal breaker for us.  If we can't trust him around the cats then we have a problem.  We are going to work with him on that and try and train him to leave them alone.  Hopefully he will respond.

He LOVES my husband and is a quick learner for the most part so we anticipate all will work out in the end.  The first few days are just trying.  He still has lots of puppy in him and not very good manners.  I have a feeling his previous owners never worked with him at all.  I feel bad because I keep him on the leash any time we are not in the fenced back yard.  He just looks out into the field like I really want to run.  I know he would love it but not a good idea until I know he won't keep on running.  :o)

for the most part we are very pleased.  Just a little concerned about the cat thing.  Didn't think it would be overnight but he has a cat drive for sure.
