8/26/11:
Things are going really well. We named Almaden (Stormy) and Andjujar is now Raisin. They are really cute, playful and fun. We are really glad that we got both of them b/c they are best friends. Andujar (Raisin) is my favorite. He is really friendly, doesn't mind being held and touched. Almaden (Stormy) is not quite as friendly and less social with us OR it's on his terms which I guess is typical for a kitty. He tends to run and hide at times which could be from having two busy young kids in the house and maybe that scares him. Raisin is very personable and seems to prefer to be around us.
They are indoor/outdoor kitties and seem to love our fenced back yard area. When we leave the door open to the back yard they tend to prefer to be outside, but come and go as they please. They also like to stick together most of the time. When one goes in or out the other one tends to follow.
I was surprised that neither of them are big talkers. Occasionally Stormy will meow. I have never heard Raisin meow. He cried out/yelped yesterday evening when stormy was playing too rough with him. They do tend to rough house a lot together biting and scratching each other. It looks painful, but they seem to have fun doing it.
They have done great with the litter box from day one. We appreciated your food that you sent. I bought a different brand when I went shopping (before they arrived). I think it's purina, but they don't seem to care for it as much. Next time I go shopping I'll go back to Science Diet. They really look like they've grown a lot in the past 2 weeks. Neither of them like to wear their collars. They aren't too tight so shouldn't be uncomfortable. However, they both can wiggle out of them. Stormy's is currently lost and we cannot find it anywhere. I bet he hid it well so we will need to get a new one.
We are taking them to the Vet tomorrow for shots. I read online about clicker training and was thinking of trying it to teach them their names and maybe do some other tricks. Not sure if that really works and wondered what you think. I believe the author of the book I ordered is Karen Pryor about clicker training cats. We are going to visit family in Spokane for labor day weekend. Any tips on traveling with them? Do we need to stop to give them a potty break. Can we just take them out on a leash or should be pack a litter box? Thanks for checking in. I'll send pictures soon.
I have one other funny thing to share with you. My kids have a small slide in the back yard that we recently got. The kitties love to climb up it and slide down. I have to take a video of it. It's hilarious. I think they enjoy it more than my boys do! I'll forward the video on if I can catch them doing it.
