NOTE: Song Khia arrived at his new home with a fairly severe stress reaction to the change in housing; he did not want to eat or drink, and just wanted to sleep, for the first 24-36 hours. "Moving stress" affects many kitties, and is shown in behaviors like hiding, not eating/drinking, and excessive meowing. Generally, moving stress resolves itself within 48 hours; just be sure your new kitty is not becoming dehydrated. If symptoms persist beyond 48 hours without showing improvement, contact your veterinarian.
3/7/11 adopter update:
Just started drinking on his own today. HE WAS REALLY STRESSED. Not really eating dry food yet either. On the other side, I started FORCING water down him on Saturday with an eyedropper and enticing him with anything I could find to eat that was solid. NO chicken, NO tuna, NO nothing. Finally yesterday he ate a little bit of Science Diet's turkey giblets and entrees. Ate a little bit of that yesterday and quite a bit of it about one half hour ago.
Now drinking on his own out of Boss's water dish and still doesn't seem to be interested in his own water dish. Go figure.
All in all - MUCH better. Today he took over Boss's large bed pillow. Khia was in the middle and Boss was lying beside him on the floor with only his head on the pllow. Pretty cute picture. He also figured out how to get out the dog door which was much sooner than I wanted so will have to keep it closed until he is totally back on his feet.
Making progress!
