Adopted June 2011

8/13/11:

Went to the lake and took Finn into the water. He wasn't sure about swimming so I cradled him under the chest and waste and talked him through using his back legs. Then sent him to the shore. He loved it. Not ready to be alone in the deep end but having fun at the lake. there were 18 dogs in various campsites and everyone commented on how well behaved Finn was and how much he loved me. He befriended all, dogs and families. It was a great vacation.

7/27/11:

So we are at about a month in and Mr. Finn is doing great. He has put on a bit of weight...I will keep him thin, no worries. But he did need a bit of weight. He takes vitamins for now just for early support.

He can sit and stay (a few bottom wiggles) and wait for his food, then given the command he can eat. We have given him raw chicken at vets request and he doesn't quite know what to do...so he carries the leg around the yard and plays with it then he immediately buries it. I don't know how much raw chicken we will come across over the years but it's pretty funny.

He is doing much better with both cats. I made them all eat together in the bathroom with me telling each that they were buddies and not to chase...Oh My Gosh it worked.

I love this dog.

Still weighing the possibilities of a second. Talked to the trainer and she said only get a second dog if we want one. It won't make Finn happier....I just think he might get lonely while I'm at school but he does hang out with Lewis the cat....

He plays in the creek everyday. Probably twice a day and I hope to video his puppy run when he goes crazy in the creek around the yard, up the hill back to the creek as fast as he can. Just couldn't help writing.

Note received in mail reads: "... Finn is doing very well. He is so funny and looks great - shaved all the mats and got his tail just beautiful. he runs in the forest with me daily.

Started Dog 101 classes (pretty funny), he's so relaxed. Still wants to eat my chickens so we work on that daily."

We're so happy they are working with Finn and the chickens; we have high hopes that he will learn to respect and protect his new feathered friends!

6/17/11:

We made it home. Finn was great in the car and on breaks. He is doing better with the gentle lead. We walked 2.5 miles in Spokane on the centenial trail and had thunder, hail and rain and he just was great.

Today we walked 5 miles on the gentle lead and he did very well. He's a bit aggressive with the cats and the chickens but he thinks before he bounds so we will train them all to get along.

Thanks for my new friend. He is very loving. When we were resting he lays his head on my shoulder if I'm laying on the ground. The hike was long and I think this guy will help me get back in shape.

Well I'm off to bed. Finn is sleeping in a nice bed on the very fancy porch. No crying or barking and he is house broke (thanks for that).

I will send photos soon and will keep in touch.
