Adopted April 2011

I thought that you might like to see how Bear is doing. He's been with me now for just over 3 years. He is happy and healthy and by far the best friend and companion that I ever had. He is my nineteenth dog and is number one, far above all of the rest. People made a big mistake by not adopting him, just because he was thought to be old because he had a grey muzzle. He is as healthy and as energetic as a puppy. He gets the best of organic food but did have a serious operation last November, but is fine now. He is the friend of every family and dozens of dogs that live in our neighborhood here in Southport, NC. The homeowners association here requires that all dogs be on leashes, however all of our neighbors have asked that Bear not be leashed because he walks at my side without a leash and they feel that he is a great example for all of the other dogs in the neighborhood who aren't as well behaved.

I've attached a picture from last week when Bear looked like a bear. Since then he has been groomed and his coat has been cut down for the spring. Just before summer he gets shaved because it is so hot here.

Bear is a therapy dog and makes his weekly trips to the nursing homes here.

He is loved by all and the people in these places just can't wait for Bear's visit.

He just stands there so that they can pet him. It's amazing how therapeutic that is. You see, you saved a dog that had a great service to perform and he is a blessing to everyone who comes in contact with him. You should all be very proud.

Thank you for what you do and regards from bear and I. We are together 24/7.

5/7/12:

Just thought that you might like to see a very rescent picture of Bear. He is 25 pounds heavier than when he was adopted on 4/18/11. He is happy and the smartest, sweetest dog ever. He has his short haircutt now because we have retired to North Carolina where he has the beach and ocean and lots of doggy friends. He really is the best dog. I was very fortunate to have found him at Forget-me-Not.

5/16/11:

Art reports that Bear had yeast infections in his ears, poor boy, but they've gotten that all taken care of now. Additionally:

He is doing well and now weighs 67 pounds and he is learning a new way. He is a good boy, but very sensitive. I have to be careful not to upset him. He has his own new bed and loves it. He's still shedding and gets brushed twice a day. No worms. He still carries around his "fishy" when he wants to go out. He's with me lots and we spend a lot of time going to town to do the grounds at my church. He loves the truck and is so good when we go.

5/5/11:

We spoke with Bear's new person (Art) by phone; he reports that, of the 18 dogs he has shared his life with so far, Bear is absolutely the best companion he's ever had. Bear got to go to a big cookout, with lots of people and other dogs, and behaved beautifully. He has already fit into the home seamlessly, as if he's always been there. He is very loved, and he loves Art in return - couldn't ask for a happier ending, and we hope they have many wonderful years together. Here's a photo of Bear and Art the day they went home together. You can just tell Bear knows he's found the place he's supposed to be.
