10/20/12:
Molly visited the US and her brother Lucky!
Adopted October 2010, and is now a Canadian shepherd (grin)
9/2/12:
I wanted to let you know that Molly (darling yet "needy" little blue merle Aussie Shepherd x Border collie, remember her?) whom we adopted at 10 mos., is now an amazing 3 yr old who continues to win people's hearts. She can still act a tad "needy" when meeting new folks, but wins everyone over. She has developed so much mentally, physically (still a nice small stature) and is so gentle and loving. She truly is the perfect dog for us. Her desire for affection matches my need to stroke her lovely silky hair. And she is the talk of the beach every time I take her down to the lake as people watch her swim, lunge and pounce on her ball when it lands in the water. Lots of laughter and amazement at her energy. And, she keeps me fit as we walk her 2-3 times per day. So, thank you for rescuing her for us!
10/17/10:
Molly is doing fantastic. Not a peep on the way home - good as gold in the carrier. The first night, she slept in the carrier and only whined for 2 min. (honestly!) as we got into bed. The next night she woke up and let out a little howl in the middle of the night, and went back to sleep. Last night---not a peep.
She's getting much less "clingy" and better on the leash - I am using a harness, and give a tug when she pulls, or a nudge with my foot (dog whisperer style) if she persists. She's great with the neighbor dogs and even gave the huge golden retriever the "collie evil eye" stare to keep him out of the outdoor water dish (made me laugh) until she was done. (I corrected her on that.) This great big retriever (paws like a bear) is so gentle and I used him to teach her to play with a kong. She's starting to get it. She now chases and plays ball in the house. The first night she just looked at the ball and us, as we played ball trying to emulate play.
She has also been very good toileting and pretty much goes almost on command. I'm starting to get when she needs to go out. Oh, and she gave her first bark yesterday - sounds a bit like a sheltie - when I got out of sight.
She is now feeling secure, so will curl up on her own, on a puff between us. The first night it took me ages to settle her, but the work has paid off. I think she realizes she is staying put.
Well, thanks again for all your help. I hope you hear MANY more success stories like this for your charges. Your great effort and work (even though a labor of love) is very much appreciated. Here's a picture of Molly and her new friend and mentor, Oakley.
