Adopted August 2009

8/13/11:

Sofia has grown into a wonderful beautiful dog. She weighs now 72 pounds, is a bit of a couch potato. But she plays nicely with Avalon and those two have become close buddies. I cannot take one without the other. She has also developed to be a great watch dog. The only thing is she is very skiddish when it comes to noises and strange people she has not met yet. Then she will hide behind Mommy. In March we had to say goodbye to our oldest cat Missy. Since we didn't want the other cat Choo-Choo to be by herself without a buddy we wanted to add a new cat. Well, I just couldn't break up the little family, so we ended up with 2 kittens. They are brother and sister, MaineCoon and Persian mix and they joined our family when they were 7 weeks old. Sofia is very good with them, very gentle, and if they get too rambunctious Sofia will simply get up and leave. Avalon's reaction was never a question anyway, she is such a gentle and happy "person" who just wants to meet everybody.

8/15/09:

Just want to send you an update on Aji since she is with us now a week. She has adjusted pretty well to her new surroundings. We have some kind of a routine already although slight changes might happen. We decided to rename her: her name is Sofia-Luise, we call her Sofia and she already knows and reacts to her new name. She reacts to the "sit" 90% of the time, maybe 30% to "down". Now "come" is a complete different story, she has her own mind about that, so we are working on that.

We are already mixing the food she came with with the one we have in our business, Nutripet, and she does great with that. If we do have an accident in the house, it's mostly our fault anyway. But no more than one (good thing I had purchased a steam-cleaner recently !)

Sofia is definitively a people dog, she likes to be close to us, but her and Avalon are getting used to each other also. Avalon decided finally to play with Sofia in the afternoon, probably just to make that kid tired And Avalon also teaches her during play what is acceptable as behaviour and what is too much. They will have to work it out. My guess though is that Sofia will be the alpha between them in the near future, Avalon never was the alpha, our old Lady was. Our 2 cats are still investigating the newcomer, I wish they would just stand their ground and not run away. Hissing, growling and swatting has occurred but as soon as they turn around and run it's fun time for Sofia.

I still have to teach her to be left alone in her kennel. Tried it once and she was crying and barking so loud that I was afraid the police would come arrest me for animal cruelty (just kidding) , but anyway it was so bad, that even Avalon started howling so deep and loud (remember she is part wolf) that I just couldn't take it. So I will try again because at some point I have to leave the dogs at home to do my business. I do never take them in the car on warm days. But, it's just a week, I am pretty patient, so we will eventually get there.

So here are a few pictures of Sofia.
1. When I have to do office work, she likes to sleep under my desk. I have the cushion of a papasan chair there, she is quite comfortable.

2. This is taken in our front yard. She loves all the squeaky toys.

3. Avalon watching Sofia

4. Sofia in our living room, busy with a toy.

So, this is all the news for now. I will try to update you on a regular basis. And if you decide to put pictures of her on your website, please go ahead. Until next time take care and "Happy Mother's Day"
