"Koda is the perfect fit for our family. We believe it was fate that we found Koda as she was the first of over 50 pups we looked at on-line. Our entire family have fallen totally in love with this wonderful little girl. Koda has fit in very well with our two older dogs: Coho, a male, who is 13 and looks just like an older Koda, and Kenai, a female, who is a 12 year old black lab mix.
From the start Koda was very aware of her "place" with them but at the same time she has gently pushed them to play... Coho and Kenai had to remember how to play again as they have settled into their old age of laying around a lot. Koda has brought new life to both of our old dogs. Coho has already taught Koda to groom Kenai, who thinks she is a queen. And Kenai who previously spent her days just laying around now plays a lot. Today was our first big rain and Kenai and Koda are out in the yard romping and running like little kids in a bounce house while Coho walked around overseeing his little kingdom.. it's a wonderful site!
Koda is such a smart pup. She has already mastered several commands including sit, stay and "Kennel". She instinctively is gentle with the young children in my daycare. She runs with them and plays and gives lots of kisses to them but has never nipped or pawed at them. Her favorite pastime while her two boys are at school during the day is to lay right in the middle of the dirt pile while the preschoolers play with their trucks. The first thing she does in the morning when my husband lets her in is to run up to our boys room and wake them up, they love it!
Koda has been to many places with us. Her favorite is the BMX bicycle races that our boys participate in. She loves all the people, smells and even the noise of the race gate dropping... its amazing it does not scare her. She loves the excitement and the socialization has been really good for her.
We are also truly impressed with how healthy and clean Koda was when she arrived on the transport to North Bend from the shelter. I had a grooming appointment set not knowing for sure what condition she would be in. The groomer was impressed as she was clean and not a single flea, tick or ear mite. She has since had her vet visit and got a full health check and is very healthy.
The photo attached was on Koda's first night here when all 3 dogs got their new bones and drug them up to the yard to enjoy them.
Thank you to Kim and the staff at Forget me Not Shelter for bringing this wonderful new addition into our family."
12/30/07, adopter reported Coho had crossed the Rainbow Bridge, after a long and wonderful life.
"... putting Coho down was rough on all of us but very peaceful and happy for him. We have a wonderful vet that came to our house so he could die peacefully in our arms in his favorite spot and then she molded his foot and left a paw print which hangs on our wall with his tags and his photo. We miss him terribly, but the joy Koda and Kenai bring us overpowers the sadness.
Koda has turned Kenai into a 12 year old puppy, they play all day and snuggle when they are tired. They have 2 beds but usually snuggle together on one when they sleep. The dogs used to sleep in the garage but now that Coho is gone, Koda and Kenai sleep in the boys room. Koda is our angel, we truly believe God brought her here to us."
