Adopted 11/2006 and having a great life in Seattle

ringworm. We renamed him Scrapper because his big 6 toed paws look like boxing gloves. Thanks again."
NOTE: This kitten's entire litter came down with ringworm; some adopters opted to take their kittens right away and treat them at home, while others asked us to treat the kittens here and send them out when their symptoms had subsided. In the end, all the kittens were completely cured, and have all become well-loved pets. Ringworm is a fungal infection, similar to athlete's foot, that causes itchy patches on the skin and hair loss; it is communicable between pets and humans, and there are numerous treatments for it. We found the best success on these kittens was a combination of weekly bolus doses of Griseofulvin, with daily wipe-downs with antifungal liquid and topical application of antifungal cream.
Some estimates say that up to 80% of all cats are either active or asymptomatic carriers of ringworm; most cases will eventually resolve on their own, even if left untreated.
