Okemos is an unclaimed stray, with an estimated birth date of April 2017. She is a super energetic, flirty, and charming young Labrador mix girl that loves as much attention anyone can give. When she is around people her whole body wiggles in joy. She knows how to sit (though doesn't really understand the value of sitting yet), seems to be really smart, and is slowly learning manners such as not jumping up. Okemos is currently a bit "mouthy" during play, grabbing at hands and toys, but not aggressively - she just needs to learn appropriate behaviors through a consistent positive training program with her forever people.
Okemos currently weighs almost 50 pounds and is likely to put on another 10 pounds or so as she finished growing. She loves playing with other big, energetic shelter dogs. She can respect older dogs that don't want to play, but she can be a bit too much for smaller dogs (even those with a lot of energy) as her play style is fairly rough right now. She is NOT good with cats and can only be adopted to a no cat home. We recommend her for homes with older children, who can participate fully in her training and can understand how to reward her good behaviors and ignore unwanted behaviors like jumping up and mouthing. Once she is a member of your family, you will be able to bond closely through continuing her training. She would enjoy one or two interactive play sessions or brisk walks/jogs each day, and the more attention, affection, and exercise she receives, the calmer she becomes. Don't be fooled, though - Okemos is a puppy, and even when she grows up, is likely to be an enthusiastic and energetic girl, ready to bound through all of life's adventures at your side.
All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Okemos is a suggested minimum of $95 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
