Holly, a small pit bull, came to our shelter as a very skinny stray. We were unable to find her owner, even though we posted notices, and she is microchipped! The chip is registered with another humane society who lost their records when they changed computers, so they can’t tell us who they adopted her to. However, they were able to tell us that she was chipped in 2007 or earlier, so that makes her 10 years old!
She is a very, very happy little dog, smiles eagerly, and charms everyone. All this happiness, despite having quite serious arthritis in her elbows. She is even happier (if that was possible), since we put her on Tramadol and a joint support supplement, and she is scampering around quite well. She was very skinny when she arrived, and we have almost brought her weight up to normal, about 45 pounds. That has made her very happy, too! She is happiest when she can follow you all around (with occasional naps), and rolls over readily for tummy rubs. She is the cutest car dog, as she is polite, and loves to ride shotgun in the front passenger seat, smiling, smiling, smiling!
We are feeding Holly chicken-free dog food, as we suspect she may be allergic (the veterinarian tells us that skin irritations are not uncommon in white-faced dogs). Her itching seems to come and go, so we are looking into having her allergy tested which will hopefully help us adjust her food or environment. Keeping up with the pain medication and joint support supplements will be important for the rest of her life, and is a moderate expense (right now, about $30 per month). Holly has a huge heart full of joy she wants to share with you - a few tummy rubs and supplements are definitely worth it!
Holly comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.
Spay/neuter, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $95; more gratefully accepted!)
