Smokey arrived as a transfer into the Sammi Fund for Seniors, after a rescuer in a neighboring county saved him from being shot because he is "too old." Smokey says he knows he is a more mature boy, about 11 years old, and perhaps he is a bit on the portly side, but he still LOVES life and wants to find a new person to share his remaining years with.
The volunteers adore Smokey, who is always described as CUDDLY for his first trait. He is housebroken, walks well on leash, listens well and responds to sit and stay commands. He is somewhat selective about his dog friends, so needs a slow and patient introduction, but once he decides a dog is a friend, he enjoys their company. Smokey, in spite of being overweight, still gets around pretty well. His perfect home will have many slow but consistent walks to help him bring his weight to a more manageable level, and someone who loves giving belly rubs, brushing, and of course cuddling.
Smokey has all the charm and advantages of a senior dog - no unexpected puddles, no jumping up on people, no frenetic energy level - just wisdom, patience, and love. If YOU need rescuing, Smokey may just be the one to rescue you.
His video shows him with his camera-and-attention-hogging friend Kato (also for adoption).
Smokey comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.
Spay/neuter, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $50, or SENIOR for SENIOR - adopters over 65 may name their own adoption fee); more gratefully accepted!)
